An apprenticeship scheme operated by Tendring District Council (TDC) is looking forward to a bright future following approval of its way ahead.
Career Track has run apprenticeships for more than 500 people over the past ten years, both within TDC and at a number of other businesses and local authorities, supporting people to learn skills and earn at the same time.
On Friday (7 October) TDC’s Cabinet approved Terms of Reference for the new Board of Governors at Career Track and gave its continued support for the service.
Carlo Guglielmi, TDC Deputy Leader, said Career Track had a huge positive impact on both the council and the wider community.
“Career Track is a real asset to the authority, producing dozens and dozens of officers still employed here – including two supporting this meeting who are real testaments to this service,” Cllr Guglielmi said.
“The care and support they offer is second to none, and is really important in the context of Tendring and providing opportunities to our residents too; you can’t put a cost on how this service improves people’s lives.
“This excellent service has been particularly recognised in recent years as the service has expanded, providing apprenticeships to several other councils and private sector businesses – and our renewed commitment to Career Track today means it has a bright future ahead.”
The new Board of Governors has been set up following a recommendation made by Ofsted after an inspection in November 2021.
An action plan was drawn up after the inspection, which concluded the service ‘requires improvement’, and has seen many positive changes made – including the introduction of an updated curriculum, online training and e-portfolio software.
Career Track was successful in renewing its status on the national Register of Approved Training Providers in April this year.
Cllr Guglielmi added: “While we were naturally disappointed by the outcome of the most recent Ofsted report – though the report also noted a number of real strengths and positive value given by Career Track – I am a firm believer of not resting on our laurels.
“We have taken on board the recommendations made and since then have swiftly implemented a really excellent programme of improvements so that Career Track can go from strength to strength.”
