Essex County Council (ECC) has announced significant investment to support economic growth, boost businesses and help residents.
Announced at a Levelling Up roadshow in Clacton, was the commitment of £2million for the Jaywick Sands Commercial Workspace project.
The project will see the creation of a new 9,500 sq. ft managed workspace and covered market on the former Sun Spot site in Jaywick Sands.
Once complete, the redevelopment of the site will see 25 affordable business spaces and ten covered market pitches created, bringing 45 new jobs. A café and public toilets are also planned to promote tourism as well as a community garden.
Set to be complete this year, the project is funded by £2million from ECC alongside another £2million from the Getting Building Fund, administered by the South East Local Enterprise Partnership (SELEP), and £400,000 from Tendring District Council (TDC). The County Council had already committed £325,000 to the scheme but has now confirmed it will invest a total of £2million in the project.
Lesley Wagland OBE, ECC Cabinet Member for Economic Renewal, Infrastructure and Planning, said: “The exciting Jaywick Sands Commercial Workspace project will form part of a programme of wider regeneration efforts for the area, meeting an identified need for jobs and training in a neighbourhood where they are desperately needed, and helping to build a better social and community environment for residents.”
Neil Stock OBE, TDC Leader, added: “This project demonstrates not only the strong public sector investment in Jaywick Sands, an area of such opportunity, but also how the creation of employment can support better outcomes and a higher quality of life for local residents.”
