Planning permission has been granted to replace an artificial pitch at Clacton Leisure Centre.
The new pitch, along with new fencing, floodlights and equipment store, will use a more modern artificial grass to replace the existing sand-based playing surface, which is reaching the end of its life.
Members of the Planning Committee at Tendring District Council (TDC) approved the proposal at a meeting earlier this week (Tuesday 20 October) meaning work can now progress on the scheme.
Catering for 11-a-side as well as youth and mini soccer games, the proposals are supported by the Football Foundation and Essex Football Association.
Alex Porter, TDC Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, welcomed the committee’s decision.
“This new pitch will support grassroots football in Tendring, providing a top facility for local clubs to use,” Cllr Porter said.
“By improving the quality of pitches we hope to support more people into physical activity, which is important for their wellbeing.”
